After the storming success of last year’s contest, we’re thrilled to announce that our popular photography competition is returning for 2018 and 2019. This year it’s bigger and better than ever, with huge prizes to be won and four new categories to get inspired by. So dust off your lenses and charge your batteries, because you won’t want to miss out!
The Biggest Photography Competition in the World
Last year’s photo contest exceeded all expectations, raking in over 183,000 submissions from amateur and professional photographers alike all across the globe. This made CEWE’s “Our World Is Beautiful” contest the biggest open-entry photography competition in the world. We couldn’t be more proud of these results!
We expected a strong response, but to end up hosting the largest photo contest in the world was a great surprise! The wide international reach of the contest with participants from 94 countries shows that the love of photography knows no bounds. Dr. Rolf Hollander, sponsor of last year’s CEWE photography contest.
After the success of last year’s competition, we wanted to give you even more opportunities to express your creativity. That’s why we’ve added four new categories to the competition, giving us a total of ten. So whether your best photography is inspired by sport, architecture, food or humour, there’s a category to suit your muse.

The Photography Contest that Does Good
The CEWE Photo Award photography contest is proud to be supporting SOS Children’s Villages. This is an independent global charity, devoted to protecting and caring for children who have lost, or are at risk of losing, parental care. With a focus on building and preserving families, the charity’s aim is to ensure that no child grows up without love, respect and security.
SOS Children’s Village helps children all over the world, and is non-governmental and non-denominational. Their work is reliant upon donations and support from sponsors, and CEWE have been in partnership with them since 2013.
We’re passionate about continuing to support this charity and the important work they do. That’s why for every submitted photo CEWE will donate ten cents to SOS Children’s Villages International. It’s a photography competition you can feel good to be a part of!

Last Year’s Photo Contest Winners
With so many great reasons to get involved, here’s some inspiration from last year’s winners to get you started.
Category Winner: People
The winning photo in the People category was taken by Florian Bernhardt from Germany. Our panel of judges were charmed by the sense of candid joy captured in the child’s eyes.
Category Winner: Traffic and infrastructure
Manh Ngoc Nguyen employed an inventive use of focus and blur to capture this intense image of a traffic conductor during the busy rush hour in the streets of Saigon.
Category Winner: Nature
Taken by Terezie Fojtovà from the Czech Republic, the winning photo of our Nature category shows a serene landscape interrupted by an almost comical addition of running sheep.
Category Winner: Sport
For the winning photo in the sports category, Christoph Grubich combines perfect timing with beautiful visual elements. This image of his daughter diving into the pool is a testament to his technical skill and creative eye.
Category Winner: Architecture
Ágnes Dudás from Hungary won over the jury with her image, which plays on the simplicity of the architecture and the stillness of the moment to create an image with strong visual tension.
Category Winner: Landscape and Overall Winner
Janne entered this breath-taking photograph of one of his favourite places, the peak of Kalso Island in the Faroe Islands. Land and sea, light and shadows, and the contrast of a small chapel on a dramatic hilltop all came together to create this stunning, visually dynamic photograph. Our jury were particularly impressed by Janne’s ability to portray such a vast towering landscape in just one picture. Through his lens, we’re allowed to experience the beauty and majesty of the scene as though we’re there in person. It’s an impressive feat of both technical and artistic ability.
Janne a living example of why we’re so keen to keep our photo contest open to amateurs and professional photographers. With a day-job as a solution consultant working for a software company, Janne is a self-taught photographer with an undeniable talent for capturing beautiful landscapes.
So whether you’re a seasoned professional with decades of photography experience behind you, or you’re an amateur hobbyist with a natural talent, you’ve all got an equal chance of winning.
This is already shaping up to be our biggest competition yet, and we can’t wait to see all of your brilliant submissions.
