With just over six weeks left until CEWE’s Our World is Beautiful photography competition closes, the fantastic entries keep on coming! Each month we’ve been amazed by the quality and variety of the photos, and April was no exception. After much deliberation in the office, we selected Joe Almond’s beautiful silhouette of a skateboarder as our UK winner for the month.
Concrete Surfing – Joe Almond
Taken in Biarritz, France
“The surf conditions dropped off so we decided to get creative and make our own waves. Skateboarding is rooted in surf culture and was born out of Southern California when a group of surfers decided to surf the concrete.”
Congratulations Joe on capturing such a striking photograph. To inspire you to capture your own winning image for Our World is Beautiful, here are a few of the other images that really caught our eye last month.
Flooded Again – Marie-Anne Byrne
Taken in Siem Reap, Cambodia
“Local road flooding doesn’t stop Cambodians.”
Pelican Reflections – Steve Adams
Taken in Liuwa Plain National Park, Zambia
Silhouetted Rowers on a Glistening Sea – Leon Slater
Taken at Eastney Beach, Southsea, UK
“Silhouetted rowers in the bright midday sun, surrounded by a glistening sea.”
Young Elephants – Sidney Motta
Taken in Amboseli National Park, Kenya
“The photo was taken during one safari in Kenya (Amboseli) when that group of elephants were having their dusty shower and playing with which other.”
Moroccan Tanneries – Joe Almond
Taken in Fez, Morocco
“A leather tanner crosses colourful vats of dye in the medina of Fez. Following the traditional process, hides are soaked for two to three days before the tanner kneads them with his feet eventually leaving them to dry in the sun.”
