Our World is Beautiful: December’s UK Winner

In between munching on mince pies, unwrapping presents and generally enjoying the Christmas festivities, you keen photographers still found chance to send us some brilliant entries for CEWE’s Our World is Beautiful photography competition.

It’s always tricky to choose just one monthly winner from the hundreds of UK entries, but in the end everyone in the office was in agreement that Angelika Adamczyk’s photo was a worthy winner.

Betancuria – Angelika Adamczyk

Taken in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

Betancuria

“Canary Islands, Fuerteventura.”

We loved the other-worldy feel to this photograph. If it wasn’t for the car, it looks like it could be taken on the surface of another planet! Thank you Angelika for sharing such a striking photograph and showing us a very different side to this popular holiday island.

Here are a few of the other entries from the UK in December that caught our eye. Maybe they’ll inspire you to pick up your camera and capture your own entry for Our World is Beautiful.

Naughty Boy – Kat Ciemiega

Taken in Peru

“This is Brian, I shot this portrait during a boat trip at Uros islands in Peru. I love his cheeky face, playful mood and vivid colours, makes me smile. He’s not happy his father tried to discipline him and make him stop rocking the boat – father’s shirt part is hanging in front of him . He’s a member of an indigenous community, which lives on self-made islands created of reeds sticking out of the Titicaca lake. The islands float on the surface of the river and the citizens can move them as they please. From time to time they have to renew and add layers of reed to the island to prevent it from rotting away. The boat Brian sits on, as well as his house are made of plants as well. A fascinating way of living.”

Red Fox – Ceri Jones

Taken in Gatwick, UK

red-fox

“A close-up portrait of a red fox.”

The Fisherman – Ben Wayman

Taken in South Shields, UK

The Fisherman

“Through the aperture of the rock arch a fisherman can be seen in the morning sun hoping for his first catch of the day.”

Lake Coniston, Cumbria – Becky Martin

Taken in Cumbria, UK

Lake Coniston

“Photo taken of Coniston Lake and surrounding hills and landscape in Cumbria.”

If you have a photo you think could be a contender for our monthly prize of a £30 CEWE Photoworld voucher – or indeed for one of more than 1,000 prizes available for the overall competition winners – then what are you waiting for?
