West Pier Sunset
Back to Blog

The post-Christmas blues didn’t stop our photographers getting out there and snapping some fantastic photos for Our World is Beautiful this January. Once again we were inundated with excellent entries, and each month it seems to get trickier to choose a monthly winner!

In the end though we selected this beautiful black and white shot taken in Covent Garden by Gellért Búzás.

Money Gravity – Gellért Búzás

Taken in Covent Garden, UK

Money Gravity

“A street performer asks a child for help with his stunt.”

We love how the young boy is jumping in the air – a moment of fun and frivolity captured with perfect timing, made more striking by the use of black and white photography.

Thank you Gellért for your entry, and congratulations on taking such a brilliant image. Here are a few of the other UK entries from last month that caught our eye.

Follow Me – Alan Humphries

Taken in Javea, Spain

Follow Me
“This image was taken at Javea Port on the Costa Blanca in Spain. They hold their summer festival in September and at the port they sand over an area and temporary stands are erected and some timber structures that the people can climb on the get away from the bulls. The idea is to try and get the bull to follow you into the water – if you are successful and the bull ends up in the water it is lassoed and taken back to shore. Bulls by the way are very good swimmers and sometimes they have trouble in recapturing them from the water.”

Faith – Alexandra Lavizzari

Taken in Yangon, Myanmar (Burma)

“A Burmese Buddhist nun at prayer in Yangon’s Shwedagon Pagoda.”

Summer Morning Woods – Ceri Jones

Taken in Woodcote, Oxfordshire, UK

Summer Morning Woods
“Morning light in summer beech woodlands of Oxfordshire.”

West Pier Sunset – Alan Humphries

Taken in Brighton, UK

West Pier Sunset

“This image of the West Pier in Brighton was taken at sunset. I had watched the weather all day and decided at 2 pm it would be worth while walking into Brighton along the seafront keeping an eye on what the clouds were going to do. As the time moved towards sunset I could see I had made the right decision. I used a LEE Filters 10 stop filter and a 9 hard gradient to achieve this image.”

Ghostly Passenger – Ron Tear

Taken in Stockholm, Sweden

Ghostly Passenger

“Stockholm underground system is fascinating. People rushing from one place to another – frenetic photography!”

Winter Forest – Stephan Gimpel

Taken in Graz, Austria

Winter Forest

“Aerial view of a snow covered forest in Austria taken just before sunrise. Took me a while to notice the heart shape when you look at the photo from a distance. No adjustments other than standard conversion.”
